The Future of Heididorf

At Heidi Village, we are very future orientated, as we seek to preserve the cultural significance and fame of this place, which Johanna Spyri describes in her stories, which makes your experience an unforgettable one.

 


Town Hall

The historic town hall is a witness to the past, which is soaked within its walls. As with many of the Grisons’ municipalities, the town hall also featured a classroom. In addition to the "School of Nature" with her grandfather, Heidi also experienced private education at the Seemanns in Frankfurt and the classic village school in Dörfli, which is based on Maienfeld in the narrative.

The Herb Room in the Town Hall

In the herb room, we strive to teach you, the visitor, lost wisdom about old remedies and home remedies. By doing this you revive, finite traditions, which dominated Heidi’s days, but have been forgotten about. You also learn about the healing power of plants, which can be used by everyone. Often the you’ll find that natural treasures grow right on your doorstep.

 


Barn

In an old stable, standing by the roots of a traditionally run, Grisons farm, the animals can be petted and fed. You will also be introduced to the different tools and methods of traditional agriculture, as well as their interaction with nature. The relationship with agriculture and its livestock is shown to you, the visitor in an impressive and vivid way.

 


Blacksmithing

Learn how a blacksmith diligently wields a soldering iron with hammer and anvil and creates works of art and everyday objects. In the forge, the ancient craft can be experienced firsthand. Many old utensils, even entire careers, have been phased out due to the age of industrialization. You’ll be amazed by, the degree of expertise, and prowess, used by blacksmiths, through the use of ingenious tools of yesteryear, picturing yourself in those days.

 


Bakery

For the realization of this experience, a building was reconstructed, as it fell victim to  flames. Due to the reconstruction, the bakery is now located place in a central place, which adds to the charm of this place. This gives Heidi Village its original character, which is based on the village, which inspired Johanna Spyri to author her world-famous Heidi novel.

 


Four Seasons

With the idea of ​​the "Four seasons", an experience show in two existing buildings, both the amount of time you spend here and the remembrance of your experience at Heidi Village is improved considerably. The show features a grand four-act play, which centers itself on the international and intercontinental guest groups, who visit our village. The phenomenon of four seasons, plays a decisive role in the Heidi novels, but also goes into depth of the history of nature and culture in Switzerland, which is conveyed to people from a distance in a way that is understandable and enjoyable.


Heididorf Trail

Here you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the striking and heartwarming passages of Heidi’s story. You can do this through a theme trail, in which you will experience elements of Heidi Village, while also discovering the beauty which surrounds it.

 


Woodwork

Learn about the art of woodworking, a skill which has driven us through the course of history, through the making of houses, dishes, and tools. This mind blowing art is presented, to you in a fascinating and interactive workshop, where old knowledge is revived.
